Our History

1974 Simmons & Company is founded by Matthrew R. Simmons and L.E. Simmons with four employees specializing in financial advisory services for the oil service industry

1982 1982-1989: Simmons expands its debt restructuring, bankruptcy advisory and corporate consolidation work

1992 The oil service, research, sales and trading group is established

1996 Simmons expands into midstream/downstream advisory services and records its first $1 billion M&A transaction

2000 Exploration & production advisory services are added

2010 Simmons advises on its first $1 billion+ E&P transaction

2013 Simmons closes their 1000th transaction and exceeds $200 billion in cumulative value The Aberdeen office closes its 200th transaction worth a cumulative $15 billion

2014 Simmons 40th Anniversary Simmons announces first closing of Simmons Private Equity II, L.P.

2016 Simmons is acquired by Piper Jaffray and becomes Simmons & Company International® | Energy Specialists of Piper Jaffray℠

2017 Simmons & Company International® | Energy Specialists of Piper Jaffray℠ closes a record 105 transactions

2018 Simmons rebrands as Simmons Energy | A Division of Piper Jaffray℠ and relocates to 609 Main Street, Houston, TX

2020 Piper Jaffray acquires Sandler O’Neill + Partners, the leading financial services investment bank; the combined firm is named Piper Sandler Companies. Simmons is now Simmons Energy | A Division of Piper Sandler Piper Sandler acquires The Valence Group and adds sector coverage in chemicals & materials
