How We Operate

Piper Sandler Merchant Banking

Experienced investment team – PSMB’s management team collectively has significant investment banking, private equity investing and operating experience that spans multiple decades and market cycles. Our team works together with Piper Sandler investment banking, research and capital markets professionals to structure, evaluate and execute investment opportunities. The combination of professional resources brings a significant amount of experience to PSMB.

Proprietary deal flow – PSMB has access to more than 300 investment bankers that operate in eight industry verticals in the United States, Europe and Hong Kong. The investment bankers have deep industry knowledge and are continually in contact with growth companies, key executives, private equity firms and opinion leaders in their respective industries.

Expansive diligence capability – PSMB has access to 80 research analysts to bring independent insight into companies, market trends and industries when we conduct our diligence on prospective investment opportunities. Piper Sandler research analysts cover over 850 publicly listed companies, primarily in the small- and mid-cap segments. Research analysts also produce significant industry reports and regularly sponsor and attend specialized industry conferences.

Highly selective investment process – PSMB has a thoughtful and selective investment process. Substantially all transactions require a collaborative effort between the merchant banking team, research analysts and our network of industry relationships.

Differentiated ability to add value – PSMB assists portfolio companies by advising senior management on broad strategic initiatives, facilitating new business relationships, supporting financial management and planning and providing guidance with respect to capital raising activities and acquisition strategies.

Understanding and controlling liquidity alternatives – Before making an investment, PSMB considers potential exit alternatives. We favor investments which are likely to generate multiple exit alternatives within three to five years. PSMB has significant experience positioning portfolio companies for and facilitating exits, including sales to strategic acquirers, recapitalizations and initial public offerings (IPOs).
