David Patterson is a managing director in the services & industrials investment banking group. With over 20 years of investment banking and accounting experience, Patterson has advised on more than 30 middle-market merger and acquisition transactions across a broad range of industries. In addition to his deep knowledge of the building products and construction markets, he has represented clients in consumer products, branded food products, food product distribution, diversified manufacturing and business services.

Patterson joined Piper Sandler through its acquisition of Edgeview Partners in 2013. Prior to co-founding Edgeview Partners in 2001, Patterson worked as an investment banker with Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co. and its successor firm, First Union Securities. He was previously an auditor with the Charlotte office of Deloitte & Touche, LLP and a controller in the private industry. Patterson is a former certified public accountant in the state of North Carolina and obtained the third-highest score among North Carolina candidates writing the Uniform CPA Examination in 1995.

Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors and highest distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
