Eric Friel is a managing director in fixed income, leading our distressed debt and special assets group, based in our New York office. In his role, Friel sources and trades specialized credit products, including distressed assets, trade and insurance claims, reorganized equity and other securities issued by companies facing financial stress, including default or bankruptcy.

Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Friel served as head of high-yield and distressed research at Oppenheimer & Co. Previously, he was a managing director and head of credit strategy at Cowen and Company. Before that, Friel was head of high-yield and distressed strategy at UBS Securities.

Friel received a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis.
