Kurt Lewis is Head of Central Bank Policy at Piper Sandler, where he analyzes central bank actions and their implications for the economy and financial markets. He brings nearly two decades of experience at the Federal Reserve Board, where he advised policymakers on economic conditions and monetary policy strategy and communication. Lewis served as Special Adviser to Chair Powell from 2023 to early 2026, and previously to Vice Chair Brainard from 2020 to 2023. He began his Fed career just before the financial crisis, working on issues at the intersection of macroeconomics and finance including financial stress and the real economy, the central bank’s lender of last resort function, and the natural rate of interest. Raised in Minnesota, Lewis earned his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 2001 and his PhD from the University of Iowa in 2007. He is based in Washington, DC.
